Hong Kong rises as top destination for Mainland tourists
Three in 10 Mainland tourists plan to splurge on their Hong Kong trip.
Hong Kong remains a top destination for Mainland tourists, with many wanting to visit the city for shopping (56%) and sightseeing and vacation (46%).
According to a survey by NielsenIQ, 30% of Mainlanders want to splurge during their Hong Kong trips, whilst 70% want to keep it basic and satisfy their craving for unique local experiences.
The report also found that Mainland tourists increased travel spending in Hong Kong by 21% in 2023 vs 2019, with an average of $33,000 per trip.
Fashion and beauty are the top categories attracting spending, with beauty products remaining as the most planned purchase.
