HKIA passenger traffic up 7.3% to 6.16m in October

Transit passengers contributed the most to traffic.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA) witnessed its passenger traffic rose 7.3% YoY to 6.16 million passengers in October.

Transfer/transit passengers which grew 14% YoY contributed the most to this month’s growth in passenger traffic, with visitors from Japan showing the most significant growth amongst key markets.

Inbound visitors from Southeast Asia and Mainland China also posted significant increases this year.

According to a press release, flight movements similarly increased by 4% YoY to 35,990 tonnes.

Cargo throughput also increased 2.3% YoY to 430,000 tonnes in October thanks to an increase in exports.

Overall, HKIA welcomed 60.5 million passengers from January to October 2017 and handled a total of 349,090 flight movements.
