HKIA links with Turkish Airlines network in new deal
The deal strengthens cooperation on air connectivity and aviation development.
The Airport Authority Hong Kong (AAHK) agreed to connect Hong Kong International Airport’s (HKIA) to Turkish Airlines’ aviation network spanning Europe, Africa and the Americas.
This comes as AAHK signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Strengthening Cooperation on Air Connectivity and Aviation Development with the Türk Hava Yolları A.O. (Turkish Airlines) on 3 November.
This is expected to consolidate Hong Kong’s position as an international aviation hub and its leading role as the world’s busiest cargo airport.
The Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, said Turkish Airlines currently leads tonnage usage at the HKIA Dongguan Logistics Park, “demonstrating the solid foundation of co-operation.”
“We are very pleased to see that Turkish Airlines is deploying more aircraft to Hong Kong and bringing in new cargo sources, implementing its landmark strategic decision to establish Hong Kong as its ‘second hub’,” she said.
She also said that the deal reinforces the airline’s confidence in Hong Kong’s economic vitality and operations, proving Hong Kong’s role as a premier gateway to the Chinese Mainland and the Asia-Pacific region.
The Hong Kong SAR will continue to leverage its crucial role as a “super connector” and “super value-adder” to optimise global supply chains and explore new trade frontiers.
