New format for Taxi Written Test to take effect in November

The total number of questions will be reduced from 90 to 75.

The Taxi Written Test is set to be revised from 3 November, following a comprehensive review of its arrangements, according to the Transport Department.

Under the new format, the total number of questions will be reduced from 90 to 75. The passing criteria for each part and the overall test duration will remain unchanged.

Part A ‘Taxi Regulations’ and Part B ‘Location and Route Questions’ will be merged into a new Part A, ‘Taxi Operation.

This section will cover relevant legislation and basic location knowledge. Meanwhile, the current Part C, ‘Road Users’ Code’, will become the new Part B.

The section on location and route identification will be substantially reduced and simplified. The question bank will also be updated.

Moreover, new questions will be introduced, focusing on recent measures, such as the taxi fleet regime and the Taxi-Driver-Offence Points system.
