Consultancy agreement for cross-border railway awarded

The deal is for the development of a 7.3-kilometre rail connecting Hung Shui Kiu to border.

The Highways Department awarded a consultancy agreement for the Hong Kong–Shenzhen Western Rail Link (Hung Shui Kiu-Qianhai) (HSWRL) to a joint venture of global infrastructure firms AECOM and AtkinsRéalis on Friday.

The cross-border railway, a project under the Northern Metropolis Development Strategy, will enhance connectivity within the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, particularly between Hong Kong and Shenzhen.

The consultancy agreement covers investigation, design, and construction for the approximately 7.3-kilometre rail connecting Hung Shui Kiu to the Shenzhen border.

Upon completion, the journey from Hung Shui Kiu-Qianhai in Hong Kong to Qianhai in Shenzhen will take only about 15 minutes.

The HSWRL line is approximately 18.1 kilometres long, including a 7.3-kilometre section in Hong Kong. The project will adopt a single Common Data Environmentand a unified Building Information Modeling platform across all stages to support efficiency and quality.

In addition to the HSWRL, AECOM has delivered railway projects across Hong Kong, including the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, Shatin to Central Link, and Tuen Mun South Extension.
