Planning department launches stage 3 of east harbour study

The Planning Department will solicit further public views before coming up with a recommended option and finalising the east harbour study.

The Stage 3 Public Engagement Programme or the Hong Kong Island East Harbour-front Study, which will last for two months, was recently launched. The study is anticipated for completion later this year. 

Briefings sessions will be arranged for statutory and advisory bodies and feedback forms will also be provided to collect public views on the preferred option. ?

In May 2009, the Planning Department started the study with an overall objective of formulating a comprehensive plan for enhancement of the Hong Kong Island East harbour-front areas focusing on connectivity and pedestrian accessibility to the harbour-front. The study area covers about 200 hectares of land along the harbour-front of Hong Kong Island East stretching from the immediate east of the ex-Government Supplies Depot site in North Point eastward to Siu Sai Wan.

In the Stage 2 Public Engagement Programme conducted in April-July 2010, public views were solicited on the initial options of enhancement proposals with a view to assessing the general acceptability of the initial options, evaluating the pros and cons of each option and identifying alternative enhancement proposals, if any. Taking into account these public comments, the study consultants have evaluated the initial options and formulated the preferred option.
