Gov't expands Hong Kong media outreach in APAC under new deal

The ISD eyes editorial visits to Kuala Lumpur-based Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union.

The Information Services Department (ISD) has partnered with Kuala Lumpur-based Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union (ABU) to establish a communication mechanism for media collaboration.

Through a memorandum of understanding, both parties will organise joint events in Hong Kong and exchanges involving ABU member organisations.

The department will begin discussions to invite senior and mid-level editorial staff from ABU member organisations to visit the city by year-end.

It will also support the union in holding media events in Hong Kong in 2027.

The ISD plans to use the ABU platforms to distribute Hong Kong-related stories and facilitate visits by media professionals from member organisations.

Director of Information Services John Tse and ABU Secretary-General Ahmed Nadeem signed the agreement, which is the ISD’s first memorandum with a regional broadcasting union.

The ABU has more than 220 member organisations across 66 countries. The organisation was established in 1964.
