HKEx has a new Chairman
Sir Chung-kong Chow, former boss of Hong Kong’s MTR metro system, now heads the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing, Ltd.
Chow’s appointment as HKEx Chairman has been endorsed by Chief Executive Donald Tsang. Financial Secretary John Tsang appointed Chow as a director of HKEx earlier this month for a two-year term.
"We are confident that with Mr Chow's leadership, Hong Kong Exchanges & Clearing Limited will strive to further enhance our market quality and competitiveness, and strengthen our position as the premier capital formation centre in the region," Tsang said.
His chairmanship will coincide with his term of appointment as a director that will expire at the end of the 2014 annual general meeting. Chow, 61, is a chartered engineer who became CEO of MTR, operator of the city’s railway system, in 2003. He retired from MTR in 2011.
He was knighted in the United Kingdom in 2000 for his contribution to industry, and is formally titled Sir Chung-kong Chow.
HKEx is the holding company for The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Ltd, Hong Kong Futures Exchange Ltd and Hong Kong Securities Clearing Company Ltd.
