HK travelers spend $1,800 per day during Paris Olympics

This is a 3.4-times boost compared to pre-trip spending.

Visa revealed that Hong Kong travellers spent an average of over $1,800 (US$230) per day, recording the highest share of daily spending across APAC during the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.

There are over 15,000 travellers from Hong Kong who visited France during the Olympic Games, generating over $163m (US$21m) in spending.

This reflects a two-fold increase in Hong Kong visitors and an almost 80% uplift in spending, respectively.

Affluent Hong Kong travellers who visited France during the Olympic Games doubled, leading to an over 80% increase in spending.

There was also a significant uplift in both Hong Kong visitors and spending in several neighbouring European countries, including Spain, Italy, and Switzerland.

Spain experienced an over 110% increase in Hong Kong visitors and an almost 180% increase in spending.

Over 60% of Hong Kong cardholders’ spending in France was on apparel and accessories, department stores, retail goods, and dining.
