Here's a glimpse of the new hospital project in Kai Tak area

It has a capacity of 1,700 beds.

According to a report, the Government is looking to build a general hospital in the Kai Tak development area. This was noted from a blueprint on the future development of public hospitals.

Tabling the plan at the Legislative Council today, Secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man said as Hong Kong's long-term population growth and rapidly aging population create huge demand on public hospital facilities in the medium and long term, the Government will pursue the development of a general hospital at Kai Tak, with a capacity of up to 1,700 beds.

Meanwhile, a piece of land reserved for private hospital development in Tai Po will be returned to the Development Bureau for other development purposes.

Dr Ko said there is demand for additional rehabilitation hospital beds in Tai Po, however, as there is still residual development potential of the existing Tai Po Hospital site, and the nearby Chinese University also tabled a plan to develop a private teaching hospital within its campus, there is no need for the Food & Health Bureau to hold that piece of land originally reserved for private hospital development.
