Hong Kong's Exchange Fund foreign assets reach $272B in May

Hong Kong's Exchange Fund foreign assets amounted to 2.12 trillion HK dollars or about US$272 billion in May, up 6.8 billion HK dollars from the previous month.

 

This was announced by the Hong Kong Monetary Authority.

The Monetary Base, comprising Certificates of Indebtedness, government issued currency notes and coins in circulation, the Aggregate Balance and Exchange Fund Bills and Notes issued, amounted to 1.05 trillion HK dollars, according to HKMA.

Claims on the private sector in Hong Kong amounted to 122 billion HK dollars.

Foreign liabilities, representing mainly obligations under repurchase agreements, amounted to 300 million HK dollars.
