Population grows by 0.4% in 2023

The government attributed the increase to the net inflow of 51,700 residents.

Hong Kong's population reached 7,503,100 at the end of 2023, marking a 0.4% increase from the previous year.

According to the Census and Statistics Department, the key factors which drove the growth include a net inflow of 51,700 residents, with 40,800 being one-way permit holders, and a net inflow of 10,800 other residents.

The government also attributed the population increase to residents returning from abroad throughout 2023. Additionally, the admission of mainland overseas individuals contributed to the rise.

Of the total population, 7,228,600 were usual residents, with 274,500 classified as mobile residents.
