Hong Kong boosts environmental ties with the US

Air quality issues tackled.

According to a report, Under Secretary for the Environment Christine Loh met with visiting United States Environmental Protection Agency Administrator Gina McCarthy yesterday, to discuss air quality management and collaboration on environmental protection issues.

Hong Kong's Environmental Protection Department and the EPA have agreed to more frequently exchange new information on emerging air research topics.

Closer co-operation will benefit both agencies and support scientific air research and related policies, Ms Loh said.

To support information sharing between scientists and policymakers, both sides will host joint events, such as workshops on marine vessel emissions and next-generation air quality modelling and measurement methods. They will also identify research topics on air quality modelling, measurement and advanced data analysis, supporting both governments' policy formulation.
