HSBC appoints Apratim Chakravarty as head of Offshore Asian Product Distribution in Asia Pacific

Apratim moved into this role from Indonesia, where he held the position of Head of Global Markets since 2007.

HSBC has appointed Apratim Chakravarty Managing Director, Head of Offshore Asian Product Distribution, Global Markets Asia-Pacific. Mr Chakravarty is responsible for enhancing the existing Asia asset class product offering to meet the increasing demand for HSBC’s Asian foreign exchange, rates and credit products amongst clients outside Asia-Pacific.

Gordon French, Head of Global Markets, Asia-Pacific, said: “This is a new role borne out of an initiative to capitalise on the increased global demand for Asian assets and products amongst investors within the developed markets. HSBC is strongly positioned to connect Asia’s markets with the world and we will continue to tailor our finance solutions to meet the evolving needs of customers globally.”

Based in Hong Kong, Apratim will report jointly to Monish Tahilramani, Deputy Head of Global Markets, Asia-Pacific and Head of Regional Trading, and Justin Chan, Deputy Head of Global Markets, Asia-Pacific and Head of Hong Kong Trading. In EMEA and the Americas, Apratim will be accountable to the respective regional heads of Institutional and Corporate Sales.

Apratim moved into this role from Indonesia, where he held the position of Head of Global Markets since 2007. Prior to that, he was Head of Corporate Sales for India, having joined HSBC in 1996. Apratim has a degree in Engineering from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur and an MBA from the Indian Institute of Management, Kolkata.
