Tolls at Western Harbour Crossing rise
Western Harbour Tunnel Company Limited is adjusting the level of its tolls as it faces increased operating costs and needs to raise sufficient cash flow to repay debts.
According to the Government which was notified by the Company of the toll increase, the actual toll for private cars and taxis will rise $5 to $50 and $45; for motorcycles to $23; for light, medium and heavy goods vehicles to $60, $85 and $115; for minibuses to $60, for single- and double-deck buses to $90 and $128.
“The Company faces increased operating costs and needs to raise sufficient cash flow to repay debts and earn a reasonable return,” said Mr Kenneth Pang, General Manager of WHTCL. “To ensure the continuous viability of the Company, the Company needs to adjust the level of its tolls.”
A Government release added, “Under the toll-adjustment mechanism the franchisee is entitled to increase the statutory tolls when its actual net revenue falls short of the estimated level specified in the law. The Company can also decide on the concessions offered to motorists.”
The new statutory tolls will be effective on July 31 and the new concessionary tolls on August 1.
