MTR Corp. loses Elizabeth Line contract
It will be taken over by GTS Rail Operations Limited.
MTR Corporation will lose its contract to operate the Elizabeth Line in May 2025.
Transport for London (TfL) has announced it will award the new contract to GTS Rail Operations Limited, a joint venture between Go Ahead Group, Tokyo Metro, and Sumitomo Corporation.
The seven-year contract, with a two-year extension option, comes as the Elizabeth Line continues to carry over 700,000 passengers daily, becoming one of the busiest and most important rail services in the UK.
GTS Rail Operations will now take over with plans to further improve operations, including the introduction of 10 new trains and new services to Old Oak Common by 2030.
Under the new agreement, TfL aims to optimise performance, enhance safety, and invest in both technology and workforce development, with a focus on delivering over 500 apprenticeships during the contract term.
