
HK Buildings Department received 3,741 complaints
In the past five years, the department issued 14 orders to prohibit changes in the use of buildings which constituted obvious or imminent danger to life and property or serious environmental nuisance.
Hong Kong's Information Services Department said that from January 1, 2006 to November 30 the year, the Buildings Department received 3,741 complaints about changes in building use.
Secretary for Development Carrie Lam told legislators today the department will take follow-up action after receiving a complaint, including deploying staff to inspecti units.
For unauthorised building works requiring immediate enforcement, the department will take follow-up actions according to the Buildings Ordinance, including issuing statutory orders to require the owners to rectify the irregularities to ensure public safety.
