Manulife Hong Kong and Mind HK warn treatment gap in Hong Kong
The insurer has opened a consultation centre.
Manulife Hong Kong and Mind HK found in a joint survey that 36% of Hong Kong residents showed symptoms of mild to moderate depression and 28% reported symptoms of mild to moderate anxiety.
Despite this, only 3% said they would prioritise seeking professional psychological help, with cost cited as a key barrier.
Manulife Hong Kong has expanded its partnership with Mind HK by opening a new Wellbeing Consultation Hub in Mong Kok, offering free one-to-one mental health consultations to adults amidst rising demand for accessible support.
The new hub, funded by Manulife and operated by Mind HK, provides free in-person “Wellbeing Check-in” sessions lasting around 45 minutes.
These are conducted by trained iACT wellbeing practitioners and are designed to help individuals understand their mental health and emotional needs. Participants may be referred to community resources or low-intensity psychological interventions where appropriate.
The service is open to Hong Kong residents aged 18 to 65 and is available in Cantonese, English and Mandarin. Online consultations are also offered to provide more flexible access.
In a past initiative involving employees and their families, nearly 90% of participants said they gained practical coping strategies that improved their mental health, whilst more than 90% reported increased awareness of their wellbeing after the sessions.
