Moshi Mosh AI turns fan culture into income
Creators make money by engaging fans with custom AI personas.
Hong Kong startup Moshi Mosh AI has developed a platform that allows prompt writers, storytellers, and fans to create and interact with AI (artificial intelligence)-generated characters.
Moshi Mosh AI lets users interact with digital characters through chat and video calls, providing an alternative way for content creators to connect with their audience.
"We're trying to build a character AI platform that tackles the problem of taking care of creators,” Alvin Tse, CEO at Moshi Mosh AI, told Hong Kong Business. “We will be the first character AI platform that enables prompt writers and storytellers to create chatbots or characters, which they can then monetise and use to grow their fan base on our platform.”
Creators can develop their own AI characters using prompt writing, a technique that guides AI responses through structured inputs. Moshi Mosh AI hosts more than 200 AI characters.
“We use the same technology as other AI platforms — large language models — making it very simple to use,” Tse said via Zoom. “You can create AI characters in just a few minutes, share them with your community, and promote them.
Users can engage with these AI characters with a single click, participating in conversations and video calls.
Moshi Mosh AI makes money through user subscriptions and in-app credit purchases known as Moshi points. Content creators can earn through the platform’s recently introduced monetization tool.
Tse said creators who join their creator partnership program could earn $15 (NT$500), $30 (NT$1,000), or $45 (NT$1,500) a month, depending on their level. Earnings are based on factors such as the number of chats and user engagement with their characters.
“This is just the starting point; we're actively working on ways for creators to earn even more,” he said. “We believe prompt writers could become the next generation of YouTubers, and we’re building towards that vision.”
Moshi Mosh is seeking to raise seed funding in the next three months to boost its talent team and infrastructure.
“A deep understanding of what users and creators want will be our long-term goal, and it will give us an edge,” Tse said. “I believe in building a very technically strong team while also deeply understanding our users.”
The CEO said they are trying to fix bugs adding new features each week. Monetization and AI voice features will be the two biggest additions in the coming months, he added.
Since its launch last year, Moshi Mosh has expanded to Taiwan and is preparing to enter the Japanese market this year. The startup also sees the US and Europe as key markets and aims to develop AI models adapted to different languages and cultures.
“It takes time, and we’re approaching it step by step,” Tse said. “We focus on one market at a time, really understanding the users, the culture, and what is needed to be at the top of the market before moving on to the next.”
“There’s no secret sauce for winning the AI game; we're still in the very early stages. But if we keep focusing on the fundamentals, view it as a long-term game, and execute at our best, we’ll have a strong foundation for success,” he added.
