Trip.com unifies all units in new Hong Kong office

Embracing tourism at its core, the new office displays a panoramic view of the Victoria Harbour.

Like many thriving enterprises that chart their path towards further growth, Trip.com found itself in a delightful dilemma: the pressing need to broaden its workspace to foster greater collaboration and efficiency among its workforce.

In an interview with Hong Kong Business, Eddy Yip, product and marketing director for Hong Kong and Taiwan and territory manager for Hong Kong at Trip.com, recalled their big move to a much larger office last December.

“Our business has been booming, and our team in Hong Kong has been growing rapidly. The new office is actually three times the size of our old one,” Yip said of their leap into a swankier, more spacious office.

With an expanded space and improved features, the new office now houses all of Trip.com units’ employees under one roof, fostering seamless connections within the entire brand.

“All our subsidiaries, including Trip.com and our corporate travel arm Trip.Biz under Trip.com Group, have moved to the same office now, and this allows more collaboration and synergies,” Yip said.

In addition to providing an enhanced space for its employees, Trip.com’s new workplace sits strategically in Tsim Sha Tsui, a district in Hong Kong favoured by tourists and known for its abundance of hotels.

“We wanted to make sure our employees found the location convenient, and it’s also great for our hotel team to meet up with our hotel partners,” he said.

As one of the leading travel service providers globally, it is only fitting that Trip.com’s office embodies tourism and boasts of a panoramic view of one of Hong Kong’s most beloved attractions — Victoria Harbour.

“The skyline and harbour are beloved attractions in Hong Kong, and being situated here reinforces our mission to promote tourism and attract visitors to this vibrant city,” Yip said.

What’s new?
In designing the new office, Trip.com took into account valuable feedback from its employees, with the addition of standing desks emerging as the most prominent request.

“We have replaced all the conventional desks with height-adjustable standing desks in our new office, creating an active standing workstation for a more energising and productive working day,” he said.

Maximising its expanded space and providing employees with more leisure spots, Trip.com also introduced new features such as claw machines and exercise bikes. “Pedaling while enjoying a scenic sea view is a refreshing way to rejuvenate our minds,” he added.

To enhance communication efficiency and convenience, the new office has been equipped with additional meeting rooms. “The main conference room in our new office is twice the size of the one in our old office,” he said. “It is specifically designed to accommodate office-wide seminars, training sessions, and formal meetings.”

In addition, the office is also equipped with phone booths. This setup offers employees with options to virtually connect with Trip.com’s headquarters and partners.

Special spaces
Focusing on employee well-being, a “relax room” has been added to the office, opening up massage facilities and a space for new mothers to tend to their maternal needs.

The common area sitting at the heart of the office is a favourite amongst employees. “It’s the perfect spot for colleagues to come together for all sorts of occasions — from birthday celebrations and workshops for International Women’s Day, to casual lunches and quick catch-ups,” Yip said.

The space was also crafted to foster team bonding and collaboration. The sea view further accentuates the serene atmosphere that envelops employees in this space.

Of course, the new office will not be complete without the signature Trip Café. “We had a Trip Café in our previous office, and it was essential for us to retain this signature design element when creating our new office space,” he said.

“This unique concept aims to create a relaxing area for everyone to enjoy meals [and] drinks. It is also the area for making your coffee to start the day,” he added.

Meanwhile, the office is segmented into two primary areas: the working area and the open area.
For the working area, Yip highlighted the collaborative workstations, and communal spaces where employees can gather, brainstorm ideas, and engage in spontaneous discussions.

“The working space is specifically designed to provide a conducive environment for teams to focus on their office tasks. This area is thoughtfully organised to minimise distractions and promote concentration,” he said.

The open area, while sharing similar features, is intentionally designed to nurture a community spirit, encourage teamwork, and develop a dynamic work culture.

“The core focus of the design for our new office is to create a harmonious balance between the working space and the open area. We have divided the office into two main sections to cater to different needs and enhance productivity,” Yip said.
