PwC China and Hong Kong plans hiring 15,000 people

Detail-minded and committed new recruits will help to secure PwC as the number one accounting firm in China.

PwC China and Hong Kong have announced plans to hire about 15,000 graduates and experienced people over the next five years, across all lines of service, illustrating the professional services firm’s positive outlook of the business opportunities in the Asia Pacific region, including continued growth of the mainland China market. PwC’s graduate recruitment programme kicks off in Hong Kong with the first campus recruitment talk on 6 September, in Shanghai on 19 September, in Beijing on 27 September and Guangzhou on 28 September , with a commitment to hiring well over 2,000 recruits for mainland China and Hong Kong.

Nora Wu, PwC Asia Pacific Human Capital Leader, said PwC China and Hong Kong continued to grow strongly, with the firm’s people helping to secure PwC as the number one accounting firm in China by the Chinese Institute of Certified Public Accountants, an accolade it has held for the past nine consecutive years.

For this year’s graduate recruitment campaign, Ms Wu said the firm would be aiming to recruit graduates who possessed a passion for the industry, and a willingness to learn. Those who were open minded, flexible and thrived in working as part of a team would excel.

“We emphasise teamwork and require new recruits to be detail-minded and committed. Agility is also important, as priorities can move fast, but this is part of the excitement of being part of a large professional global network,” Ms Wu said.

PwC recruits people from a variety of educational backgrounds, including those who do not have an accounting background. “We target to recruit the best and brightest graduates from a variety of universities as we focus on quality and believe in diversity,” Ms Wu said.

To help secure the firm’s leaders of tomorrow, PwC invests in comprehensive learning and development programmes that see an associate receiving on average 120 hours of training in their first year with the firm. Overall, in 2010, PwC invested over 1.2 million hours in learning and developing our people, according to a PwC report.

“This is a commitment we don’t take lightly,” Ms Wu said. “Our learning and development programmes ensure the people we hire become independent and competent professionals, and eventually the firm’s future leaders.”

Further enhancing the development of people at PwC is the network’s global mobility opportunities. In 2010, some 2,700 people from PwC member firms globally were posted on short-term and long-term international assignments. Secondment opportunities are highly valued by PwC people.

The firm is also committed to its community responsibilities, and strongly encourages its people to do meaningful things beyond work. To promote this culture from the very beginning, PwC has teamed up with TREATS in Hong Kong for this year’s graduate recruitment campaign. TREATS is the pioneer charity in Hong Kong to provide moderate mentally challenged children social inclusion and integration services through games, play, experiential activities and different creative means. Founded in 1979, TREATS is also the sole charity providing the Integration Education Curriculum for schools in Hong Kong.

To instil a sense of community responsibility, graduates will be given a donation card during the campus recruitment talks in Hong Kong. For every card returned with the individual’s full contact details, PwC will make a donation to TREATS Hong Kong. In addition to this, PwC contributes an annual donation to TREATS Hong Kong, and provides volunteers throughout the year to assist with the charity’s programmes.

“Our recruits can look forward to a myriad of opportunities, all aimed at making them the very best they can be both from a professional and personal perspective,” Ms Wu said. “The sky is the limit for PwC recruits.”
