Gov’t passes bill to boost social worker standards
Secretary Sun emphasised the importance of social workers in national security.
The Secretary for Labour & Welfare Chris Sun announced the passing of the Social Workers Registration (Amendment) Bill 2024 last 3 July, emphasising its significance in enhancing the profession's standards and role in national security.
Following the bill's approval, Sun highlighted its impact on bolstering the Social Workers Registration Board, ensuring a more robust operational framework.
“We believe that with the amendment bill, with the strengthened composition of the Social Workers Registration Board, it will encourage more young people to study social work and be a social worker,” stated Sun. “Secondly, with the amendment bill, with a broadened Social Workers Registration Board, it will provide better protection and certainty to the profession.”
The reforms are expected to fortify professional standards across the social work sector, reinforcing its pivotal role in national welfare and security.
