Diffusion index down to 41.9 in November

Business receipts DI fell for business services, restaurants, and retail trade.

The current diffusion index (DI) on business receipts amongst small and medium enterprises (SMEs) decreased from 42.3 in October to 41.9 in November, according to the Census and Statistics Department.

The one-month ahead DI for December showed slight improvement at 46.6.

Sector-specific declines were recorded in business services (DI fell from 50.0 to 45.9), restaurants (37.4 to 34.9), and retail trade (39.8 to 37.7).

However, the DI for new orders in the import and export trades saw a modest increase, rising from 44.7 in October to 45.1 in November, with an outlook DI of 47.4 for December.

A government spokesperson attributed the weaker sentiment to global economic uncertainties and escalating trade conflicts.

Despite the challenges, employment remains stable, and recent measures by the central government to boost the Mainland economy and support Hong Kong are expected to improve business confidence.
