The hotel bagged awards for its corporate social responsibility initiatives and strategies to engage company employees.
W Macau - Studio City has won the CSR Initiative of the Year - Hospitality & Leisure and Employee Engagement of the Year - Hospitality & Leisure categories at the Hong Kong Business Management Excellence Awards 2025.
With the goal of making a positive impact on the local community, employees, and broader society, W Macau designed its initiatives to be diverse, impactful, and sustainable.
The company has worked with numerous local non-government organisations, government bodies, and charities in Macau to carry out a wide range of CSR initiatives. These collaborations help strengthen its relationship with the local community and ensure that its events have a broad, positive impact. Its notable partnerships have produced events like “Spring Cleaning for Elderly Homes,” “International Women’s Day - Yoga Journey,” “Festive Food Deliveries to Elderly Homes,” as well as in-house charity sales, recruitment and career planning sessions, and clothes donations.

In terms of employee engagement and volunteering, W Macau encourages its employees to take part in CSR programmes, recording more than 30% of its staff having volunteered in various initiatives over the past year. This approach not only benefits the community but also strengthens their internal culture and team spirit.
The company also goes beyond traditional CSR efforts. W Macau partnered with sister properties in Hong Kong in September 2024 to organise the “Road to Give” charity event. The event featured fundraising activities and a running competition to support Hong Kong-based charities.
Furthermore, the company strives to extend its CSR activities to local organisations and community groups in Macau to maximise the impact of its initiatives. To do so, it collaborates with local media outlets to raise awareness and share its efforts with the public.
Additionally, W Macau has embraced new technologies to enhance the effectiveness of its CSR events. For instance, it uses AI-powered programs during career planning sessions to interact with students. It also utilises advanced survey tools to collect feedback after events.
W Macau’s CSR efforts are aligned with the long-term vision of its parent company, Marriott International. By integrating the values of sustainability, community engagement, diversity, and employee development into local initiatives, the company strengthens its resilience and reputation in the hospitality industry.
Meanwhile, W Macau ensures open communication with monthly General Manager’s Roundtables, bimonthly HR Chats, 30-day onboarding feedback sessions, and regular departmental and hotel managers’ meetings.
The company has implemented the “Crushing It Card,” which allows employees to recognise each other daily. It also holds quarterly and annual recognition programmes to celebrate outstanding managers and staff. In 2024, over 90% of supervisory and managerial roles were filled through internal promotions.
For employee development, the company offers a variety of training programmes, including brand and service training, management development, and leadership training. It also organises activities like flower arrangement, handicraft workshops, and yoga classes to promote self-care.
In addition to these, W Macau has a 50K challenge, which encourages employees to exercise 50 minutes daily, and the “Mind Matters” seminar that helps employees balance work and mental health.
These strategies have led to a significant improvement in employee retention, with the company’s attrition rate dropping from 23% in 2023 to 15% in 2024.
