Gov’t unveils improved green product certification scheme

This follows the CIC Green Product Certification Scheme launched in 2019.

The Construction Industry Council (CIC) and the Hong Kong Green Building Council (HKGBC) launched the CIC Green Product Certification Scheme 2.0.

The initiative aims to promote the adoption of eco-friendly construction materials. It follows the CIC Green Product Certification Scheme launched in 2019 which certified over 1,000 products from various sectors.

These certified products are aligned with environmental and sustainability criteria and enable developers to comply with green building standards such as BEAM Plus.

The CIC Green Product Certification Scheme is owned by the CIC and operated by the HKGBC.

“Over 30% of global carbon emissions are related to construction activities. Among them, embodied carbon from materials like steel and cement accounts for nearly 20%. Meanwhile, the impact of building materials on human health, energy efficiency, and durability is gaining public attention. Choosing green building materials not only helps mitigate climate change but also enhances living quality and benefits the community,” Thomas HO, chairman of the CIC said.
