HK manufacturing sector’s sales increased by 12.1% in 2023

Industry value added of the sector to HK’s GDP increased to $37b.

Hong Kong’s manufacturing sector’s total sales and other receipts increased by 12.1% to $243.3b in 2023, according to the Census and Statistics Department.

Industry value added of the manufacturing sector, which is a measure of its contribution to Hong Kong's Gross Domestic Product, increased to $37b reflecting a 4.8% growth.

Within the sector, the four largest segments which added industry value were food, metal, chemicals, and paper products.

In the food, beverages and tobacco total receipts amounted to $46.8b whilst industry value added increased by 7.8%.

As for the metal products, machinery and equipment industry, total receipts stood at $143b, accounting for 5.4% value added.

Moreover, chemicals, rubber, plastics and non-metallic mineral products industry receipts amounted to $27.7b, increasing its industry value by 8.1% to $6.4b.

Furthermore, the paper products, printing and reproduction of recorded media industry receipts totalled $10.7b which increased its value by 7.7% to $3.6b.
