HKDC’s all-new knowledge platform is set to be the leading online design portal
bodw+ features all-in-one integrated content with one-stop access.
The annual Business of Design Week (BODW) 2021 of the Hong Kong Design Centre (HKDC) had faced unprecedented challenges in delivering its week-long internationally renowned conference programme on schedule under the pandemic.
However, this daunting challenge was overcome by transitioning its programmes from physical to hybrid, then from hybrid to tribrid format, combining the three components of Live TV broadcast, online streaming, and on-demand content.
Rapid digitalisation presented the company’s programme with a real growth opportunity, as it enabled BODW to become the first international design conference with a live simulcast on TV, the internet, social media, and at partner locations. The total viewership of BODW 2021 Summit represented a 220% increase from its 2020 show.
The key to this successful digital transformation and makeover was the introduction of an all-new design knowledge platform, bodw+. HKDC managed to roll out a fully operational platform in less than six months through a close partnership with a digital branding consultant.
bodw+ is envisioned to become Asia’s leading online design portal, providing evergreen content on the latest insights on seminal design trends and exclusive interviews with creative leaders and emerging talents. Its multimedia content delivery features and community-building model also enhance HKDC’s strategic position as an international hub of design knowledge exchange.
The technology features an all-in-one integrated content combining editorial, live programming, on-demand programming, as well as 20 years of BODW content archive with one-stop access. It also has a library of multimedia content, including high-quality videos, podcasts, and interview articles by renowned creatives, supporting multilingual subtitling in three languages and operated in-house through collaboration with worldwide partners in more than five countries.
HKDC notes that moving forward, opportunities abound as interest in human-centric innovation continues to soar, as digitalisation fosters new business opportunities through matching and networking; and, as it continues to strengthen collaborations with different country partners to expand the international design community.
The solution provided by the organisation has been honoured by the Hong Kong Business Technology Excellence Awards 2022, as HKDC clinches the Digital - Public Organisation win. The prestigious awards programme honours outstanding companies that have made exceptional contributions in the pursuit of technological innovation in Hong Kong.
