Hong Kong eyes saving 5.4 billion kWh energy from buildings
The new edition of BEC aims to uplift energy efficiency standards.
The government is eyeing to save 5.4 billion kilowatt-hours from buildings’ energy consumption through the new Code of Practice for Energy Efficiency of Building Services Installation (BEC).
The new edition of BEC uplifts energy efficiency standards with an improvement of more than 20% as compared with the 2015 edition.
It was gazetted by the Electrical and Mechanical Services Department in line with section 40 of the Buildings Energy Efficiency Ordinance to enhance the energy efficiency of buildings' services installations and promote decarbonisation.
The new editions will take effect on 23 August 2025.
