MTR introduces overnight trains to Beijing and Shanghai

The new service will cut travel time to Beijing and Shanghai by half.

The High-Speed Rail (Hong Kong Section) (HSR) will operate overnight sleeper trains between Hong Kong West Kowloon Station and Beijing, as well as Shanghai, starting 15 June, from Friday to Monday.

MTR said the ride will facilitate comfortable, safe, and reliable advanced travel options for passengers travelling between Hong Kong, Beijing, Shanghai, and intermediate stations.

With this upgrade, the total travelling time from Beijing and Shanghai to Hong Kong will be reduced from approximately 24 hours and 31 minutes and 19 hours and 34 minutes to about 12 hours and 30 minutes and 11 hours, respectively.

The train departs in the evening from the origin station and arrives next day morning, passing through destinations such as Shijiazhuang and Hangzhoudong.

Tickets will be available on various ticketing channels, such as the 12306 online ticketing platform and mobile app, station ticket counters, and ticketing machines starting Wednesday, 5 June, at noon.
