Over 11% of profitable female investors double their positions: report

Nearly 20% achieved more than 50% return rate.

Around 11.5% of profitable female investors were able to double their positions after attaining more than 100% return rate, Futu Holdings Limited said in a report.

In its Hong Kong Female Investment Trend Report, Futu found an increasing number of young women who have started to venture into investments.

This suggested that there is a growing interest to achieve financial independence amongst young women. But even with this, data showed that female investors are still dominated by clients in the post-80s and post-90s generation.

Of Futu’s female investors across all age groups, over 90% have invested in common stocks rather than in derivatives and funds.

The report added that of those that were profitable, nearly 20% were able to achieve more than 50% return rate; whilst 11.5% doubled their position.

“The number of female clients on Futu’s platforms has increased five times year on year, as of the end of the first quarter this year,” Futu’s Founder, Chairman, CEO & Chairman of the Technology Committee Leaf Hua Li said.

“As a one-stop investment and wealth management platform preferred by female investors, Futu will continuously learn from the investment trends of Hong Kong female’s investors and bringing the market a greater level of analysis and insights.

Moreover, Futu found that post-70s generation and older females tend to invest in the Hong Kong stock market, 58% of their transactions are from Hong Kong stock market; whilst those who belong in post-00s and post-90s female investors are keener on trading in the US stock market as 92% and 91% of their transaction amounts are from the US stocks trading, respectively.

Amongst the women’s top 10 traded stocks, seven are the US stocks such as Tesla, Inc. Female investors were also keenly invested in NIO Inc., Xiaomi Corp., AMC, Palantir Technologies Inc., GCL-POLY, Apple, and Alibaba.
