Basic food items consume 26% of employees' minimum wage earnings

Employees earn a minimum of $6,933 net monthly.

Minimum wage earners in Hong Kong need to spend 26% of their pay to afford a basket of basic food products necessary to live, Picodi’s Minimum Wage 2024 Report revealed.

In Hong Kong, minimum wage earners get $6,933 net monthly, higher than what they used to earn in January 2023 of $6,500.

Meanwhile, a basket of necessities costs $1,801.

"Compared to the previous year, this year the minimum wage kept up the pace with the prices of products," Picodi commented.

Hong Kong places 40th in the list of markets with the highest minimum wage to food price ratio.
