Hong Kong inks deal with Shenzen to establish joint marine emissions office

It will provide a unified platform to control air pollution and improve air quality.

Hong Kong’s Environmental Protection Department (EPD), the Shenzhen Maritime Safety Administration (SZMSA), the Human Settlements and Environment Commission of Shenzhen Municipality (SZHSEC) and the Transport Commission of Shenzhen Municipality (SZTB) signed a Cooperation Agreement for the establishment of the Shenzhen-Hong Kong Office for Marine Emissions and Control last December 19, according to a press release.

The cooperation agreement provides a unified platform for relevant authorities to collaborate on studies that will develop marine emission control in the region.

The office will also work on implementing the Pearl River Delta Domestic Marine Emission Control Area (PRD DECA) signed last year which aims to enhance collaboration on marine emission control to control air pollution and improve air quality.

The agreement was jointly signed by the Under Secretary for the Environment of the HKSAR, Mr Tse Chin-wan, the Director of the SZMSA, Mr Li Wei; the Deputy Director-General of the SZHSEC, Mr Lu Xuyang; and the Counsel of the SZTB, Mr Wen Wenhua.
