Tourist arrivals surge 20.6% to 6 million in November

The month witnessed a recovery in visitor arrivals from non-Chinese markets.

Hong Kong’s tourism sector maintained its positive momentum in November as visitor arrivals rose by 20.6% to 5.99 million, according to the Tourism Board.

A steady influx of Mainland visitors which rose 25.8% to 4.63 million in November boosted headline tourism figures along with a 5.7% recovery in non-Mainland China markets.

The number of visitors from short haul markets picked up by 6.6% to 851,079 in November on the back of higher tourist arrivals from Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Japan, the Philippines, and South Korea which was more enough to offset falling visitor numbers from Taiwan and Indonesia.

Tourist arrivals from long haul markets also inched up by 3.3% to 445,276 amidst increases from the USA, Canada, Germany and France. Similarly, the number of visitors from new markets which include India, Russia and Netherlands rose 9.8% to 67, 294.
