Employment in private sector dips by 5.1%

Vacancies decrease by 47% over the preceding year.

The total employment in the private sector fell by 5.1% last June 2020 in a census released by the Census and Statistics Department.

The majority of companies surveyed reported decrease, mainly in the food and beverage sector with a reported -15.4% in employment and accommodation services which reported a -14.4%.

The survey also showed employment increase in human health services.

Job vacancies also decreased, notably in the industries of food and beverage services, retail trade, professional and business services (excluding cleaning and similar services) and arts, entertainment, recreation and other service.
