Cathay Pacific Cargo bolsters readiness for vaccine distribution

They will utilize a new system to assist in COVID-19 vaccine distribution.

Cathay Pacific Cargo is now ready to ship COVID-19 vaccines worldwide.

The air cargo specialist said the distribution solution will center around the newly rolled out Ultra Track system, which is the next-generation track-and-trace system that monitors information, including temperature, GPS location, and humidity. The system uses low-energy Bluetooth readers.

Shipments using Ultra Track will also be monitored by the newly established Operations Control Centre, which is based in Hong Kong and would be staffed 24/7 to help take proactive steps to ensure the various storage requirements of vaccines are maintained.

The Cathay Pacific Cargo Terminal is also being expanded for more temperature controlled capacity. Currently, it is able to temporarily hold and transit 6.6 million doses of vaccine a day.

According to Cathay Pacific Cargo director Tom Owen, more cold storage will be built, with the new cold room storage to handle an additional 1.6 million doses of vaccines.
