Shenzhen outstrips Hong Kong in shipping container volumes

Shenzhen volume grows 2.5% in H1.

The port of Shenzhen surpassed Hong Kong port in shipping container volume in the first half of this year. Shenzhen port handled 11.06 million teu (twenty-foot equivalent units) while the Port of Hong Kong handled 10.71 million teu in the same period.

The Shenzhen Port Authority said international transit container volume at the port rose 20% year-on-year to 1.42 million teu in the first half. The authority predicts that the port will achieve 3% to 4% growth in the second half of this year.

The Chinese Academy of Sciences predicts Shenzhen port will achieve a container throughput of 23.3 million to 23.5 million and become the third largest container port in the world behind Shanghai and Singapore.
