Hong Kong to intensify anti-mosquito measures

More cases expected by August.

According to a report, secretary for Food & Health Dr Ko Wing-man says anti-mosquito measures will be strengthened in Tin Shui Wai, Lau Fau Shan, and Wetland Park, and extended to other areas.

Speaking to the media after visiting Japanese encephalitis patients in Tuen Mun hospital today, Dr Ko said an inter-departmental meeting was held recently to discuss precautionary measures.

He expects there will be more cases, since August is part of the rainy season.

One patient is still in serious condition and relying on breathing equipment, but can respond to questions by nodding his head. The other two are in better condition.

Dr Ko called on people to take preventative measures against the disease.
