3 buildings positive with Legionella bacteria

61 buildings were put under test.

According to a report, the Electrical & Mechanical Services Department found Legionella bacteria in four cooling towers in three buildings last month.

The department tested 68 water samples collected from cooling towers in 61 buildings. Four samples were found to have a Legionella bacteria count at or above the upper threshold, which is 1,000 colony-forming units per millilitre.

Two of those samples came from Prince Industrial Building on Sun Yip Street, Chai Wan. The other two came from Block A of Hong Kong Industrial Centre on Castle Peak Road, Lai Chi Kok, and from Sunbeam Centre on Shing Yip Street, Kwun Tong.

The department issued nuisance notices to owners requiring disinfection work, which has already been completed.
